FoRP VOLUNTEERS HELP IRONMAN LEEDS
Friends of Roundhay Park were delighted to be asked to volunteer with the IRONMAN Leeds event again this year.
Sixteen volunteers braved the heat on the hottest day of the year to pack athlete bags, set up merchandise and prepare the transition area. We were well looked after by the IRONMAN team who provided snacks and water. We thoroughly enjoyed our time.
Following the event we worked in two shifts to help clear any remaining litter in the park. The main problem this year was metal ring pulls from cans and plastic ties, both of which can become embedded in the ground if left. We would also like to see more litter bins on the event day…preferably with lids to avoid foraging by squirrels and birds. We have provided feedback to the team for next years event.
FoRP will receive a donation from IRONMAN for both of these volunteer session.
