OAKWOOD MARKET
On Saturday 18th July, some of our committee members volunteered to spend their morning at Oakwood Farmer’s Market. As well as spending our money at all the wonderful food stalls (my favourite were the brownies!), we were there to raise the profile of ‘Friends of Roundhay Park’ and find out what our members and others in the community would like to see from us.
By lunchtime, we had chatted to many people about our work, including some who joined up as members straight away. We also sold some of our merchandise which include a range of books on the history of the park, prints and map posters.
Joining us at our stall was Peter Baker from the Leeds Buildings and Preservation Trust to explain more about the Roundhay Lodges Project. The trust is aiming to receive funding to restore these former gate lodge buildings to their former glory but with a new purpose for the future. If you are interested in the history of the buildings, join local historian Rachel Unsworth on Tuesday 15th and Wednesday 16th of September as part of Heritage Open Days.
